After working with iReport all these years i find working with Jaspersoft Studioabsolutely frustrating. I am surprised others haven't complained. Either that or they have worked with the eclipse plugin from the start. Swithching back to iReport 5.6.0 - will cross the bridge when i get there - i dont have time to figure this new editor out from the start.
iReports was functional. Studio has always been a frustration. Latest Studio version is a bug receptacle, it simply doesn't work. I'm sticking to 6.0.1 version, 6.2.0 is sluggish on my Linux.
EDIT May 2016: I'm now using version 6.2.1 and it's a lot better than 6.2.0. 6.2.2 is already out but I haven't tested it yet. Thanks a lot for your work.
I don't get why it was "necessary" to replace a time-proven working tool by this. Compared to iReport is working with JR studio just a pure pain. What a shame...
This is not as easy, friendly, or stable as ireport. I also don't see the need to incorporate this into eclipse which just seems to add more overhead and force users into a project-oriented approach.
Migrated from iReport 2 years ago, though the project was off to a rocky start at first, the latest releases 6.0 and up have seen a great increase in quality and a lot of new features that iReport never had. Thanks to the JSS team for their hard work!
Love the much better integration with Jasperserver, the little touches that make the tool easy to use such as double click an element opens the property editor and the integration with SVN! The stability improvements in the latest version make Jaspersoft Studio a big improvement vs. iReport.
Familiar IDE makes using Jaspersoft Studio a breeze, I expecially love the new CV component, its a game changer to be able to bring in external javascript components. Well Done to all involved
Jaspersoft Studio is a really good report designer, the updates on the UI are getting better and better every version. I do like the compatibility featues, the plugins capability for version control including CVS, SVN, and GIT and the capability to better manage (copy/paste, etc) the Jasper Server repository.
Jaspersoft Studio is far better than iReport Designer. Have always been waiting for a developer friendly report development tool and here with Jasper studio I could find all my expectations to be fulfilled. Its project based approach, easy to publish to server, maintaining database adapters/connection same as any IDE for application development makes the learning curve easy and very end user friendly. I always had strong aversion towards iReport, UI was not intuituve and that makes report development tougher. I just loved this new and enhanced Jaspersoft Studio and must say it has increased productivity for report designer.
