Following upgrade from Jasper 1.2.0 to Jasper 2.0.0 using embedded Tomcat and external MySQL.
Mandatory fields do not cause input controls to show when "always prompt" is unchecked
If always prompt is checked, input controls fail to pass input values to report, using default values instead making parameter controlled reports rather difficult to implement

Second part of bug is misreported. Ignore.
Action: Update

I think you are misunderstanding "always prompt". This refers to whether the input controls are presented before the report is run. If "always prompt" is not selected, the report is run without allowing the parameters to be changed, therefore using default parameter values.
