[#8311] - subdataset + return variables

can't return values of custom variables from subdataset to main report (always null)
but values from default variables in main works fine

Please include a test case (self contained report JRXML) to reproduce the problem.

subDataset name="pro_edu"
don't get "pro_edu_id" in main from this dataset

Try setting calculation="System" for the master variables that store values returned from the dataset.

If that doesn't help, we'd need to see a (preferably simplified) report that we can run ourselves (e.g. using the JSS sample DB).
