Summary:
Group circles/spheres
Can objects in the graphics be placed on circles or spheres? I propose that elements can be grouped with their relationships by this layout feature into "bubbles". Each object can be connected with straight lines or "rays". I assume that it can become difficult to draw a lot of bended lines in big diagrams.

I can develop in several programming languages. But I am not so experienced in graph algorithms so far.
Would you like to reuse a circle layout?

Does anybody like to develop such a plugin with those layout algorithms?

I seen the applet. Very cool.
I don't know if this kind of positioning feature can be useful for a reporting tool, but it can be done writing an iReport plugin. The plugin can track logical connections between element. Trought the plugin interface it can be possible connect elements (i.e., if 2 elements are selected, clicking on plugin button "connect", the two elements will be logically connected and a line element will be added to the report
and "marked" as link). Invoking the plugin button "compute elements position", based
on the selected algorithm, on the page height and width and on informations about connections between elements, all will be correctly positioned.
What do you think? Yes, this is not the max of user frendly, but can work.

How do you think about the Small Circular (Ring/Star) Example by the application "ILOG JViews Demo Layout Applet"? http://mvdemo01.ilog.com/layoutapplet/

Can the picture "http://jgraph.com/images/gxl2svg.png" for the Graph Conversion example and the page "http://jgraph.com/layout.html" show my idea?
