Let me understand, the jrxml no longer loads, or it just not compile anymore?

In the second case, please consider that a measure renamed may be used in several places. iReport does not perform (and in many cases it would not be able anyway) any kind of refactoring to update all the referenced of the measure.

Hello Giulio,

The JRXML no longer loads.

See the last page of the PDF.

After renaming the variable, it duplicates randomly another variable with the same name of the variable that you just renamed and the report is unable to load thereafter.

The report is then crashed and you can't do anything with it because it doesnt load.

This issue still happens in v4.5.1.

To rename 2 measures in a Crosstab you have to do one by one,
closing and opening the JRXML file after one rename.

Otherwise, the 2 measure will get same name that you which to rename.

This is quite annoying bug because if you rename the two measure the JRXML gets damaged and you lose all the changes that you did in the report.
