I have not been able to find any facility or even directions for transferring iReport options from one version of iReport to the next.
There needs to be an automated tool for transferring options and settings, especially if it not be possible to install a new version as an upgrade to the old version (after the Firefox model).

If I had to choose between an options-transfer tool such as I have requested, and the Firefox model of update-in-place (with manual transfer of options for a new clean installation)...
I would choose the Firefox model of updating an existing installation of iReport (with an option to install a new version separately), and documentation on where to look to manually transfer options and settings for new installations.
