When you give a Text Field or Static text the bold attribute, the corresponding font (eg. Helvetica-Bold) for "PDF Font name" is not selected, so in PDF output, the font is regular not bold.

With the introduction of the Font extensions, all the PDF specific properties have been now deprecated. I can still consider to fix this bug (which I set as Request for Enhancement since it is not a bug) at some point, but I would encourage people to avoid to set the PDF font without using a Font extension (Tools->Options->Fonts). This because the same PDF font can lead to different rendering results on Win and Linux, so the result can be that you are not able to see the text or the text is cut on different platforms when the report is deployed.
