How to create complex dynamic headers

2004-12-09 08:09

Japserreports has nice features for stretching fields, however these features are docoumented badly. I have a problem with them which could be resolved experimentally, but I've not found solution yet. May be someone already knows how to do it?

I have relatively simple table header in my report:

_________

|_A_|B|C|

|D|E| | |

_________

In other word there is 3 columns. Second (B) and third © columns are normal, but first one (with A,D and E) splitted in two horisontally, and bottom part splitted in two vertically (it's called header (A) and two subheaders (D and E)).

The problem is that contents of these header could be changed dynamically. I need header to stretch vertically to fit all contents, like this:

_________

| A | | |

|___|B|C|

|D|E| | |

_________

When I include all them in one elementGroup and use stretchToTallestObject or stretchToBandHeight I don't get needed result. However, I thought, that stretchToBandHeight is what really needed - but it doesn't works right. Maybe I forgetting something (I've not forgotten to set positionType=float for D and E columns).

That's all. Thank you for any future comments you will leave here.

Is it possible at all?

I've solved this problem myself after 3 days of experementations. This problem is not trivial, so I'll not describe solution here.

I am having a similar problem with trying to group elements so that two side by side elements will stretch to the same height. How were you able to resolve your issue with the use of element groups tag?

I agree.. the documentation for stretching and element grouping is very poor.
