How to customize XY Chart?

How can I customize my XY chart? My three priorities are

1. Decrease the font size of the value labels (2.69, 2.32, etc.) and make them bold
2. Format the dates at the bottom to MM/dd, and make them show up more often (in the example below, maybe every three days)
3. Move the tick marks to the middle of the bar instead of the beginning.

I can use the Item Label properties when it's a regular bar chart, but none of those options work once I change it to an XY chart.
