Copy JRXML and Update/Clone Report

Background:  We have a report which our users like, but would like to make some changes to.   We have found the XML for the report in the database and can view the XML (well formed).

Current Status:  When we load the JRXML into iReport 5.6.0 we get nothing.  Well almost nothing.  We can see the XML, but not see anything in the designer or preview tabs.  In reviewing the log I find a severe [global] error Java.lang.classnotfoundexception: org.springframework.core.namedinheritablethreadlocal.  through a google search I found some references to this but nothing meaningful. 

My Question:  What is going on, and how can I fix it?
