subreport not displaying data but displays 'space' where data should be in java deployed application...works fine in Ireport.

I've searched through this community and elsewhere and have found 'similar' problems to what I'm seeing but no solution yet.   Here's the problem:  I have a master report and a subreport constructed in iReport Module within Netbeans.  Both master and subreport display perfect when I run project in Nebeans.  However, when I deploy project as an application jar file...the jasper report only shows the Master Report data....the subreport data is missing....but interestingly....blank lines are where the subreport data "should" be......so I know it's getting the subreport records....it's just NOT rendering them.   If I remove the subreport jasper file from the application path....it will error out as it should...so I know it's seeing the subreport jasper file.   I'm also confident it's retrieving the subreport records....because it creates "space" where the records should be showing....but again...it does not show.     ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
