subreport JRDataSource and missing jar?

I have watched a few instruction videos and it seems that I need to supply my subreport a JRDataSource. I thought I did it correctly.

new net.sf.jasperreports.engine.JRDataSource($F{pwoMileStones})

as the data source expression.

compiling gives me "Cannot Instantiate the type JRDataSource".

pwoMileStones is a list.

First, did I understand correctly and second what do I have to add to my classpath?
