unresponsive keyboard

Hello -

In running iReport on OpenSuse 11.2 / Gnome I have run into a problem with an unresponsive keyboard.  The keyboard works everywhere else but iReport at this time.

This is not the first time that I have run into an unresposive keyboard using OpenSuse 11.2  / Gnome, I have run into it before with squirrel (the SQL client), Pentaho Spoon, and the IBM DB2 9.5 gui tools.  I have searched the Internet and these forums diligently for anything related to "keyboard" but I have not found any suggestion of a solution or workaround.  Elsewhere I have found that the command:

export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1

can help, and it has helped with applications like SquirrelSQL.  It does not help, unfortunately, with iReport.

update:  This issue seems to occur in the services tree with the  "Connect using" dialog box.  The sql editor seems to work ok most of the time.

Can I provide any other information?

Has anyone else encountered this problem?
