JasperReports Sample no longer functions

I was working my way through the iReport Ultimate Guide, and when I tried to return a value from a subreport, iReport locked up, and I had to force it to quit. Now, the JasperReports Sample server no longer connects, and I get an error message. 3 hours of googling have yet to yeild a single result.

Exception

Message:

              java.sql.SQLException: socket creation error

Level:

              SEVERE

 

I am using Mac OS 10.6. Please help!
