what does "jdtcore" in the Jasper distro?

After investigating the Jasper dependencies in the POM, i am wondering why there is a jdtcore library needed. I mean this is an eclipse IDE core function library (and a quite big one). Most likely its needed but i would be thankful to know why....

JDT is used to compile Java expressions used in reports.  You can find a trimmed down JDT jar in the JR distributions.

Also, if you don't need to compile reports at run time, you only need to use JDT at build time.
