You could load the excel or word file using the POI library (poi.apache.org). You would then have access to all the fields from Java. From there you could either have a layer of beans api or implement your own JRDataSource, or easier yet, use the SVTableModel from POI and then supply the tablemodel as a source to jasper reports.
