How do I Remove Lines when blank

I have null rows pulled for my report which display a blank line. In order to remove the blank line that has null rows I used the property "isRemoveLineWhenBlank" for the report elements in that line. But that does not work.

Can someone help me with this please

I hope you must be using Textfield, then go to properties then click Textfiled tab then tick blnk when null checkbox, If you want to remove the line itself from common tab tick remove line when blank.

Thank you for the response. But I was doing the same thing that you mentioned. I have textboxes to display the data obtained from database. I selected the textboxes and in the Element Properties tab i selected "Remove Line when Blank". But it does not help in anyway. It still does not remove the blank line.

Make sure you have no other static objects on the line (eg rectangle, line, static text box) as these will force the row to remain visible even if the text fields are removed.

Thanks for the response.

I only have 3 textboxes in that line and i marked them all to remove line when null.

I have these textboxes within a group though. Does that make any difference??

Duh! Remove the element group and see if it fixes the problem. Element groups only help you to move things about synchronously at design time in iReport.

I have to keep the textbox in the group. Is there a way I can remove the line within the group if the textbox is null or blank.

No you don't, you only think you do.

I think it's about time you posted the xml source for the whole detail band so we can actually work out where things are going wrong.

I am uploading the xml source that I have for my report. I removed the query from this source.

If you look in the report I have 3 groups for Partner, State and Detail.

I need to remove these groups when the values returned in the textboxes is null or blank

First, please ignore my previous posts about ELEMENT groups as you were trying to explain that they were DATA groups.

The code that you posted works fine in iReport 1.2.7

The STATUS and LINERESPONSEDATE text fields shrink to zero height if both are null. All that remains of the detail row once they are removed is the small space (a couple of pixels) that you have left above and below the text fields. This is normal practice as it provides buffering between rows, but if you have a lot of null rows then you will end up with a lot of blank space.

To fix this problem you would need to make sure that there is no space above or below your text field elements in the detail band. In order to restore the whitespace buffering you would need to increase the vertical size of the text fields and add the desired amount of padding (see Element Properties - Border - Padding).

Thank you for the response. I tried the solution by removing all the spaces above and below the textfields.

But still the blank lines do not go away. I uploaded the output I am getting. You will get an idea when u see the "XYZ Insurance Company". It has a lot of blank lines since there are no results for this company.

They aren't blank lines - it's just reflecting that there's partially filled data. The report is outputting exactly what you asked it to.

You need to suppress records in your data source where LINERESPONSEDATE is null and STATUS is null.

One other thing that you must take care of is that no other objects can be touching any object inside the line.

In iReport 3.5.2 you can check that when you select your object. If the selection is blue, than it's ok,

but if it is green, the option "Remove Line When Blank" will not work.

You must do that for all objects inside the line, when all are blue, the option will work.
