dynamic grouping / dynamic number of column

2005-01-06 17:02

Hi,

is it possible to design a report with dynamic grouping (according to the input of a user)?

Depending on the kind of grouping parameters the user selected, also the number of columns will change between 7 to 12 columns.

I don´t want to design 30 different reports which nearly offer the same information beside of the groups...

Kind regards,

Ralf

Ralf,

You may need to supply 12 cols to the report, but only print the ones you need, based on the data supplied by the user.

Yes, that could be a possibility, but how can I do that.

When I use the "printWhenExpression" the column is still there but empty. But I want to dynamically hide the whole column.

Is it possible to load a compiled report-file and change it programmatically? or is there an easier way to do this?

You may be able to setup a variable for each column, then pass the required data value to each col variable as required.

this way all the data would be assined to cols as it is needed, leaving no gaps.

Must you use a seperate col for each item? if the data is formatted, You may be able to add the fields to variables, then all to a single page wide field object.

$V{field_1} + $V{Field_2} + etc

set the variables with an IF condition like this...

$F{field_1}.equals("DontPrint")?(""):($F{field_1} + ", ")

hope this helps

Hi walmillard,

an interessting workarround. :-)

We now decided to do some jasperreport-programming to reorder and hide columns as required.

Thank you for your suggestions anyway!

Regards,

Ralf
