iReport Designer v3.7.1 comes with a set of sample reports to help newbie users to learn how to create simple reports. The samples can be opened in the designer by clicking the sample name from the menu Help.

A sample database is also shipped with iReport Designer. A special connection is created by default to access the database. The database starts up automatically when required, or can be manually run from the Help -> Samples menu.

The new callouts/notes tool allows to add to the jrxml some notes. To add a note, just drag the Callouts tool into the report page. The notes are only visible in the designer and are stored in the report properties.

Each note can have several pins to point to a specific report location or element you want to comment.

features_371_chartwizard.png.c7e0c04b7608c6f51af1add9587ff7f5.png When creating a new pie chart, or a chart which uses a Category dataset, a new chart wizard helps the user to set the chart data with a step by step wizard. The charts that use a Category dataset are: Bar, Bar3D, Stacked Bar, Line, Area and Stacked Area.
