JasperServer 3.7 CE install Cant connect to mysql

Hi I am new to linux,java, and jasper so pretty much i am a basket case,

but here we go...

my environment is as follows
fedora 11 apache 2.2 JDK 1.6 tomcat5 mysql5.1 all installed and verfied working.

i am executing jasperserver-ce-3.7.0-linux-installer.bin
accepting the default install path for jasper server and asking for the server to use my existing tomcat and mysql instances
setting the directories for tomcat and mysql respectively
tomcat5 dir = /usr/share/tomcat5
mysql binaries dir = /var/lib/mysql
mysql port = 3306
and then enter my mysql credentilas which i have confirmed have root priviliges
the installer then reports back
Error: Unable to connect to database 127.0.0.1:3306. Please check your configuration.

i have confirmed that mysql is running and i can log from >mysql -utony -p

one question i have is whether the mysql dir i hav supplied is correct, looking in this directoy it is the repository directoy for the already databases running on my mysql insatnce. is this the directory that jasper installer is after?

can any one help with this one?

Hi,

Give bin directory(/usr/bin) path instead of refering lib directory... It might work.

i takeit back -you are right, the directory /usr/bin was correct, but also had to comment out the bind-address line in my.cnf then it worked.
