Fonts Problem

I have a report that requires a monospace font like Courier or New Courier be used for part of the report. This report must be produced as a pdf and this means that the pdf will need to use Courier font. If I create the report using New Courier the pdf uses the default since New Courier is not available to every pdf viewer. I can not add Courier to iReport since Courier is not a True Type font. I am using iReport 3.7.0 and my current workaround is to use the depracated pdfFontName. Most of my reports use either Courier or Helvetica fonts when produced as a pdf and Ariel or New Courier during the design phase. Since some of these are available on line to individuals I can not use any fonts that are not always available in any reader.

I think this is what Font Extensions > Monospaced is supposed to resolve but I'm having problems with that
