eeby
I am trying to understand what I can and can not do with iReport. Is there a features list available somewhere? I wasn't able to find one. I'm looking for some basic info on what the product does, maybe some screenshots and/or examples of use cases, maybe a few examples of the kind of reports it produces. I understand that it has a visual query builder, but it would be awesome to have just a tiny bit more detail than that, such as a couple sreenshots showing the builder in action perhaps. You know, just basic software eval type stuff. Anywhere I can find that? Thanks Ethan
Giulio Toffoli
hi Ethan, iReport is just a visual designer for reports generated using JasperReports, so you need first of all understand what you can do with JasperReports. Here you can find some sample reports: http://jasperforge.org/jaspersoft/opensource/business_intelligence/jasperreports/samples.html They you would like to know how to use ireport to design reports for JasperReports. For that you can read the first chapters of the iReport manual (the one available for free). It is a bit outdated but still valid for the main concepts. http://www.jasperforge.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.ireport/wiki/IReportManualV1.2.1 Regards Giulio
eeby
Thanks. I looked over the samples and docs. The samples are helpful in seeing what the product can produce. The problem with the outdated docs is that they don't help me evaluate how the current product actually works. I don't see anything in there about the visual query builder, which is the main thing I need. Can you point me to info about that, (for the current version not an outdated version)? Meanwhile, I've installed the product and I'm trying to figure out how it works. Thanks. E
Giulio Toffoli
Sure, you can take a look at the last video we did about the version of iReport for NetBeans. We are porting iReport on the NetBeans platform. This means that if you use NetBeans IDE, you can use iReport as plugin. Otherwise you can use the standalone version (based on the NetBeans rich client platform). http://www.jasperforge.org/jaspersoft/opensource/business_intelligence/ireport/page.php?name=iReportNB You can see a set of scrennshots of the current swing based version of iReport here:http://www.jasperforge.org/jaspersoft/opensource/business_intelligence/ireport/page.php?name=Screenshots Finally, you can guess the functionalities of ireport reading (and evaluate the commercial manual) looking at the table of contents of the iReport manual here:http://www.jaspersoft.com/downloads/definitive/DG_iReport_index.pdf Regards Giulio
