Change date grouping in chart

I have a report (based off ad hoc) with a chart that has a date field in the Rows. I can right-click the field and change the grouping (day, month, quarter, year, etc.). I would like to know if it is possible to modify this setting in Visualize.js so that I can add controls for it. I've been going through the visualize.js and JiveUI doucmentation, and it seems like it would be possible via JiveUI, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to reference it.
